2010 NRL Grand Final Results

October 4th, 2010

The 2010 NRL Grand Final results are in! Fans are likely still reeling after the intense night of competition between the St George Dragons and the Sydney Roosters in which the Dragons left no doubt about whether they were this year’s best NRL squad. They demolished the Roosters 32-8.

The game started on a very different note as the Roosters looked fit to take the win. In a fantastic first half battle, the Roosters saw both Braith Anasta (16m) and Mitchell Aubusson (20m) take a try apiece to put the Sydney team up by two points going into the half break. Though, seeing their Grand Finals hopes take a familiar turn toward yet another loss, the Dragons came back a new team in the second half.

The St George-Illawarra team was able to score four unanswered tries through the second half to absolutely demolish any hope the Roosters had of pulling off an upset. Jason Nightingale had two tries while Jamie Soward put on an impressive performance with five conversions and a penalty goal. Darius Boyd was another highlight of the game with seven tackles and a try assist. The St George Fullback was awarded the Clive Churchill Medal.

The stunning win has confirmed coach Wayne Bennett’s status as one of the best coaches in the NRL League as it marks his seventh out of eight NRL Grand Final wins. Not only that, but he finally delivered a Premiership title to a team that has continually come out of the NRL Finals empty handed. It was a fitting finish to the Dragons’ Minor Premiership winning season, and their first Premiership title since the two teams merged.
